Shrove Tuesday - Num Noms Inspired Pancakes! #NumNomsPancakeDay

Happy Shrove Tuesday!

At three years old, this is the first year that E has been excited about making pancakes on "Pancake Day". The only thing the girl loves more than food are collectible toys with Num Noms being top of her list!

Num Noms set us a really exciting challenge - to make some Num Noms inspired pancakes. We received some goodies to help us get started, as well as some Num Noms series 4 sets for us to take flavour inspiration from.

We were familiar with the Starter Packs (RRP £9.99) and we were so excited to smell the Ice Cream Sandwich scents - Wintergreen Crème is definitely my favourite. I'm a sucker for mint!

We also already own some Glitter Gloss-Up and Polish-It Noms (£3.99) as E received a couple for Christmas. E is such a girly girl and loves applying lipgloss and having her nails painted.

The Num Noms Lights boxes (£3.99) were completely new to us and Erin totally fell in love with them - who doesn't love a light up toy?

After the excitement of seeing which Num Noms we got - it was time to make pancakes! I'm a lover of anything that makes my life easier so pancake mix in a bottle is a game changer and you just can't go wrong.

E put on her trusty Num Noms chef hat and helped me pour the mixture into the super cute heart pan. The fun part was deciding how to decorate them when they were ready. She decided to base her pancake on Candy Karma with her candy floss scent, but first she made sure to spread her beloved Nutella on first, followed by lots of hundreds and thousands.

Now the best part - eating! E had so much fun creating her Num Noms pancakes and receiving her Pancake Champion certificate! I get the feeling that she'll be wanting to make these a lot - yum!

You can purchase Num Noms from Smyths, The Entertainer and all good toy retailers.

Win a Num Noms Series 3 bundle!

2016 was the year of the Num Nom with the scented collectable craze making its way into households across the UK. My two children became obsessed with Series 1 from seeing them advertised on TV and now you'll find Num Noms in every toy box in our house! Anything collectable is a huge hit with them and my daughter E especially loves the lipglosses.

Now in 2017, we have the release of Series 3 and Lights! The brand have created new food themes and funky characters meaning that there are more ways to collect. The Lights really glow - something that my son will be very excited about! The Nums fit on top of the scented Noms which light up in two different colours and come in a cute juice carton. This is effectively like a blind bag so the character that you get will be a complete surprise - you may even snap up a limited edition one!

Series 3 includes nine new collections with themes such as Marshmallows, Donuts, Veggies and Fiesta Foods. As well as dual-flavoured lipglosses, you can also collect erasers and stampers. You can buy Series 3 as Mystery Pots, Starter Packs, Lunch Box Deluxe Packs and Surprise in a Jar. They have never been more fun and I'm sure little ones will excitedly be trying to collect them all.

Num Noms Series 3 and Series 1 Lights are recommended for children aged 3+ and are available to buy from all good retailers such as Toys R Us, The Entertainer and Smyths Toys. For more information, you can visit the Num Nom website.

Num Noms #WackyBakers Challenge

I've reviewed Num Noms before on the blog and spoken about how much the kids and I love them. If you aren't familiar with them, they are cool little scented collectables which can be stacked to create flavour sensations.

With the Great British Bake Off being in full swing, we were tasked with getting the kids to do some Wacky Baking inspired by Num Noms. In preparation, we received a pack of Freezie Pop Num Noms, a mystery pot and both of my children got their very own chefs hat complete with cool Num Nom sticker. I spotted that one of the scents in our Freezie Pop pack was strawberry so I decided we would base our bake around that flavour as strawberries are the kids favourite fruit.

I must admit that we don't do an awful lot of baking at home (bad mummy!) so I wanted to keep in simple and opted for a strawberry cheesecake. I know, I'm cheating a little bit as it's not technically baking! C was really excited helping me find the ingredients at the supermarket and even told the checkout lady what he was making.

The strawberry cheesecake was so simple for the kids to help with. C broke some digestives in a bowl (really, I did most of this as he didn't like the feeling of them!) and I mixed it with some melted butter then placed it at the bottom of our 8" cake tin. I put some squeezy strawberry jam on the top of the biscuit base too. He helpfully scooped the cream cheese in and mixed in some caster sugar. We were a little naughty and didn't weigh any of it - I hoped for the best. After whipping the double cream, we folded it into the cheese and sugar mixture then added a little strawberry jam for flavour and red food colouring to give it a nice pink colour. C is obsessed with Halloween so he excitedly told me that it looks like "blood that vampires drink!" We spread our mixture over the top of the biscuit base and cut some strawberries to decorate the top before placing it in the fridge to set.

I did worry a little bit about how it would taste as I guessed measurements but it turned out beautifully! C really enjoyed making his own cheesecake and we will definitely be doing some more baking in the future!

Why not try your hand at some Num Noms inspired baking? You can find all of the flavours at the Num Noms website - I'm sure you'll find at least one that takes your fancy!

Num Noms Series 2 - Review & Giveaway

Num Noms are the new craze sweeping the nation and if you haven't heard of them, where have you been!? I first heard of them on social media and through other bloggers then C and E discovered them from advertisements that were shown during Tiny Pop. C instantly thought they looked amazing and kept asking for some. He got his hands on a few of the Mystery Pots (I'll speak more about what these are later) from Series 1. Series 1 were the sweet smelling Num Noms but now they have released Series 2 which have some more savoury scents.

We received a Diner Food Deluxe Pack (RRP £14.99) and two Mystery Pots (RRP £3.00 each). Inside the Deluxe Pack you get a container - we received a tray and spatula, two Noms (these are little motorised items which are activated by pressing the button on the top or you can get lipgloss ones), 5 Nums and a mystery Num. The Nums are made of rubber and they are all scented. They even have character names that correspond to their scent. The Noms in the Diner pack are Ketchup Go-Go and Cheesy Go-Go while the Nums are Hammy Burger, Haley Hot Dog, Lemony Cola, Frenchie Fries and PBNJ. I think the scents are all pretty self-explanatory! Our Mystery Num was Cherry Cheesecake.

As soon as I opened them all out of the packaging I had a little sniff of them all and they all smell scarily true to their scents. I have to admit that the Haley Hot Dog makes me feel a little ill as it genuinely smells so much like a real frankfurter!

The idea of Num Noms is to create scent combinations. You take your container (in our case, the tray) take a Nom then stack Nums on top. C's favourite combo was Ketchup Go-Go, Frenchie Fries and Hammy Burger - I think that would be mine too! E absolutely loved the motorised Noms and thought they were really funny. I think she was impressed that she could turn them off and on herself.

The Mystery Pots are really cool! They look like little yoghurt pots then inside you get a Num and a Nom inside a blind bag. Ours contained Phili Roll which is a sushi Num and Mozza Rella. Both of the Noms were lipgloss ones. E was especially taken with these and kept reapplying it to her lips.

I can't quite believe how quickly both of my children have taken to these toys and with so many to collect, I'll definitely be picking more up for Christmas. C has his eye on the Café Playset!

They are recommended for children aged 3+ but I do let E (she'll be 2 in a couple of weeks) play with them whilst supervised. You can find out more about the entire range and other characters at the Num Noms website. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.
