Brother Max Non-Contact Thermometer Review

Last Tuesday morning (in the early hours), C woke up screaming. He felt hot to touch even through his sleepsuit so I stripped him down to his nappy and gave him water. I used an underarm thermometer to check his temperature, which was really tricky as he's so fiddly, and it showed 39 degrees. A fever. I finally got him back to sleep and we got up as usual at a more reasonable time.

The postman called to the door with a parcel. A Brother Max Non-contact thermometer. It literally couldn't have come at a better time. As soon as it arrived I opened it up and put the batteries in (which were included - how good is that!?) and got using.

I am a huge fan of Brother Max products. We reviewed Ray the bath and room thermometer and I also own the dual purpose plug-in nightlight so I was really pleased to be given the chance to review another product.

As I mentioned before, this is a non-contact thermometer and it is so easy to use. There is a round button on the back which switches the thermometer on. To get a reading, all you need to is click the arch button underneath the screen. Either a house symbol or a head symbol will show. The house symbol means a room temperature will be taken and the head is, pretty self-explanatory, a forehead temperature.

To take a forehead reading you need to hold the top of the thermometer 2-5cms from the forehead, press the round button on the back and release. The temperature will shown on screen.

Taking a room temperature is the same method, switch to the house symbol but you do not need to point it at a certain place, press the round button and release.

As you can see from the photo above, there are two other buttons. The 'M' button is memory. You can press this button and it shows you previous readings that you have taken. The speaker button is for the sound. When you take a reading, a light flashes on the back (green, orange or red to indicate if the temperature is normal, raised or high) and the thermometer beeps. The sound button allows you to turn the sound on or off.

This is a great idea if you are taking a reading at night time and don't want to disturb your child. The screen also has a backlight so you can read the results in the dark. The screen has a battery life display so you know when it will need a battery change.

This thermometer really has made my life easier as C really hates being disturbed and annoyed and now I can take his temperature without a fuss.

The Brother Max Non-contact Thermometer can be purchased from Boots at a price of £39.99.

Ozeri Turtlemeter Review

Ozeri are a manufacturer of digital lifestyle products for the modern home. They are based in the USA but are looking to expand into the UK market. They very kindly offered us one of their Bath Turtlemeters to review.

As soon as I received it, I was surprised at the size. It is a lot bigger than I expected. I couldn't wait to give C a bath and put it to use!

Although it is quite heavy, it floats naturally on the water and is fully submersible. As soon as I placed it in the bath, it flashed blue to indicate that the water was too cold.

I added quite a bit of hot water to put the turtle through its paces and it flashed red as a warning.

I then obviously, got it to the correct temperature so that C could have a comfortable bath and it flashed green to tell me all was good to go!

As soon as the Turtlemeter is in the water, it switches on. It is sensor activated so you don't need to fiddle with any buttons and it automatically checks the temperature every second. It also double up a bath toy for your little one!

This Turtlemeter is perfect from birth (with adult supervision required). The temperature is recorded in Fahrenheit though, so I did need to break out my trusty converter!

You can purchase your own Ozeri Turtlemeter from Amazon UK at a fab price of £9.99!

Brother Max Ray Bath and Room Thermometer Review

When giving C baths, I've always played it by ear. I've never used a thermometer to test the temperature of the water and I never do the elbow test either. I can usually "just tell". Brother Max very kindly sent us Ray - a very cute bath and room thermometer to review.

As soon as I opened it up, C took it off me. Apparently it was his toy to play with (and eat!). First of all, we set it in our room (C still sleeps in with us). We're still using the paper thermometer from the hospital where it has a strip and a box comes up telling you a rough temperature so it isn't practical at all. Ray has an LCD display which gives you and exact temperature. Our room is 19 degrees according to him which is perfect and put our minds at ease.

Our next test was in the bath. On the front of Ray there is a little water sign that says "37°" meaning that this is the recommended temperature for bath water. If the water gets too warm (39°+) "HOT" is displayed. This didn't happen in our bath though. I did test it in the sink with hot water and it was displayed so it definitely works.

C had fun playing with him in the bath too - he made him attack his toy boat (don't ask!).

Running the bath is so much handier with this little device. I don't have to constantly have my hand in debating whether it's too hot or not. I can just leave Ray to work his magic while I get on with getting C undressed.
